JESSICA LUNDSFORD ACT

(Florida Law) - Wikipedia

On June 20, 2007, Governor Charlie Crist signed into law Senate Bill 988, Relating to High Risk Offenders. The bill, effective on July 1, 2007, requires specific notations on the driver's licenses of sexual predators, and established standards and procedures related to the background screening of individuals who provide contracted non-instructional services to Florida public schools or districts.

The Jessica Lunsford Act requires all contracted vendors who are  permitted access on school grounds when students are present, who have  direct contact with students, or have access to or control of school  funds, to undergo a background check and meet Level 2 screening  requirements pursuant to Florida State Statute 1012.32.

All non-instructional contractors who are permitted access to school grounds when students are present:

  • Must be a resident and citizen of the United States or a permanent  resident alien of the United States as determined by the United States  Citizenship and Immigration Services
  • Must be 18 years of age or older; and
  • Must meet the background screening requirements pursuant to Florida State Statute 1012.467.
